Why choose Malta to study medicine

Perspectives: Insights from Malta students

Third-year student Yasmeen Durzi and students share their candid thoughts and experiences, offering a glimpse into the life of a Mediterranean medical student. Each interview offers unique perspectives that bind them together in this vibrant community.

Island of Dreams

When I was still in high school trying to decide what medical school to go to, I was stressed and felt like I couldn’t find a place that suited all my needs. I wanted an internationally recognized degree that I can enter as an undergrad. I wanted a degree in English and I wanted to live in a nice and safe city. My top choice became very clear when I came across Queen Mary University of London in Malta. It had everything I dreamed of!

It’s always been a dream of mine to experience life on an island. So being able to do that while still getting a degree from a UK university seemed like the perfect opportunity for me. Malta as a country is a beautiful island with such nice nature and scenic views. The size of Gozo was an added bonus for me as it makes it so easy for student life.

Most things you would need for everyday are walking distance like the campus, hospital, grocery stores, restaurants… and when you want to explore the island in your free time there’s free busses that take you wherever you want to go. The ease of the life in a small island saves you so much time for studying and for any other activities you’re interested in. This really was an important factor for me when choosing QMUL Malta.

Sun, sea and support

Living a 10-minute bus ride away from the beach is truly a huge privilege and another one of the reasons that drew me to Malta. Going to a different beach every weekend in summer and getting to do beach activities such as kayaking, snorkeling and paddle boarding is my favorite thing about Malta. It really feels like a vacation every time I explore somewhere new!

The size of the student body in QMUL is also a huge advantage. The small number of students allow for a tight knit community to be build where everyone knows and supports each other. The teachers know all students by name and are always more than happy to help out. This attracted me to QMUL Malta as I wanted a safe environment that feels like a home away from home and after spending 3 years here I know I made the right decision.

In conclusion, QMUL Malta is the perfect university if you want an internationally recognized medical degree that gives you easy access to specialty training in the UK while getting to experience island life in the Mediterranean!
