Gozo is exactly what the doctor ordered
Gozo is a hidden gem for students looking to balance a world-class degree with a slow-paced, scenic lifestyle, says Joelle Azzopardi, a respiratory physician and lecturer at Queen Mary, Malta Campus. In this video, she explains what makes the University special and why she chose Gozo over Malta for her medical practice.
Meet Joelle Azzopardi
Born and raised in Malta, Joelle saw the opportunity to work in Gozo as a chance to have the best of both worlds. Despite enjoying city life while living in Malta, she chooses to commute to Gozo every day to work at the Gozo General Hospital and lecture at Queen Mary, Malta Campus.
“The work environment and scenery in Gozo are too beautiful to pass up,” says Joelle. “It’s a true joy to work in such a stunning place and share my knowledge and love of medicine with students.”
Joelle also loves the work environment in Gozo, which she says is collaborative and made up of people with a passion for medicine.
At Queen Mary, Malta Campus Joelle finds fulfillment in inspiring students with her love of medicine. She says the hospital canteen is a hub of activity, with delicious meals prepared by the resident chef and team-building sessions with colleagues from both the University and the hospital. With a view of the Cittadella, she says it is the perfect place to relax and recharge.
Gozo itself is a feast for the senses, she says, with its stunning landscapes and serene beaches. From the breathtaking beauty of Dahlet Qorrot to the historic Hain Selem Church, Gozo offers adventure and tranquility.
“The birds in Hain Selem Church sound like an orchestra announcing bedtime at sunset,” says Joelle. “It’s a true testament to the beauty and culture of Gozo, which is why we have such a thriving opera scene here.”
So, why wait any longer? Join Joelle on her journey and discover why she chose Gozo over Malta for yourself.
