Krish’s Chronicles: A Tour of Queen Mary, Malta Campus

A Blend of Pride, Learning, and Joy

Walking through the doors of campus always gives me a feeling of pride and happiness. This is because everyday I can learn something which I didn’t know yesterday and because I get the opportunity to create of lots of memories throughout my time here with all my friends.

  Lectures and Leisure

Days here usually start with lectures in the morning and the Lecture Theatre is a great space to learn. Being able to sit comfortably and have two large projector screens to view the lecture slides on is very helpful. Also, the ability to re-watch lectures is a plus, especially if you don’t fully understand something that is being said during the lecture.

When we have breaks in between learning, the student common room is somewhere we often spend time talking, playing pool and relaxing. Also, the other student common room on the top floor has table football, which is always busy and a highlight for students here. Right next to one of the student common room is the canteen, where there is a variety of fresh food to have throughout the day. Morning coffees are a must with the choice of either a hot or iced coffee available. You can either choose to enjoy your food or drink inside, or where I prefer to enjoy which is with the outdoor seating. The 360-degree views which look out to the Citadel, different churches, and the sea as well are always so lovely to look at especially when enjoying an iced coffee.

With the suites looking like you are in a hospital, it makes the feeling of doing these examinations more real and gets you more familiar and comfortable with what the hospital setting will be like.

From PBL to Practice

Depending on the timetable, you can either have PBLs in the morning or afternoons. There are eight classrooms which these sessions can take place in, with brainstorming going on between students after we have been presented with the weekly case. Being able to work collaboratively together with your peers is always lots of fun and PBLs are a great way in which this can happen. Just across the corridor from the PBL rooms are the Clinical Skills Suites, where you are able to put your learning of the different examinations into practice.  After a day of learning has finished, the Library and PC labs are where students can do their work and make notes on the lecture content. This is supplemented by the variety of books in the library, as well as high-tech computers. Finally, the Anatomy Centre is where we have our practicals and get to look at various parts of the body which are been dissected. This helps with our learning in the Lecture Theatre too. There is also the opportunity to dissect as well, which I feel helps consolidate your learning of the different body systems.
